Glossary
Quick definitions for the terms used throughout this guide.
- Striker
- The large disc you drag and flick. It never gets pocketed for points — sinking it is a foul.
- Carrom men (coins)
- The 18 small discs on the board — 9 light and 9 dark — split between the two sides.
- Queen
- The single red coin at the center of the rack, worth bonus points if pocketed and covered. See How to play a board.
- Cover
- Pocketing one of your own coins on the stroke immediately after pocketing the Queen — required to actually claim her points.
- Baseline
- The line at your edge of the board where you position the striker with the slider before each shot.
- One of the four corner holes. Sinking your own coins there is the goal; sinking the striker is a foul.
- Board (a board)
- One complete round of play, from the opening rack to a side clearing its coins. A Match is a series of boards.
- Match
- The full session — every board played until one side's Series Total reaches the win target. See Scoring & the Match.
- Bounce (restitution)
- A physics setting controlling how much energy survives a collision — higher values make pieces carom off each other and the rails more sharply. See Physics & settings.
- Kinetic friction
- The drag that slows a piece down while it's already sliding. See Physics & settings.
- Static friction
- The force holding a stopped piece in place until a strike overcomes its limit and sets it moving. Full explanation on Physics & settings.
