06 Playing a friend online
"Play with Friend(s)" opens a persistent friends list, not just a one-off room code. Both players need an internet connection.
- The first time in, pick a username — this is the name friends use to find and add you.
- Tap Find Friends to search by username or browse who's online right now, then tap a result to send a friend request.
- The other player opens Requests on their own Friends screen and taps Accept. Each friend row shows a live status dot (online, busy/in-game, or offline) and has its own Chat button for a quick message.
- Tick one friend and press Play with Selected (1) for a 1 v 1, or tick three for Play with Selected (3) to start a 2 v 2 — the app hosts the room and brings everyone in automatically.
- Each side names its team, then a coin toss decides who picks colors; the winner's choice syncs to both boards.
- Play turn-by-turn — each shot is mirrored on the other screen. If someone pauses or leaves, a banner tells the rest of the room.
No friends yet, or playing someone off-platform?
The Friends screen has a fallback link to the classic room-code flow: one player hosts to get a short 5-character code, the other joins by entering it. Up to 4 people can join the same code, which is how a 2 v 2 comes together this way too.
Disconnected or backgrounded the app?
Your Friends screen lists Live rooms — every room your friends are currently playing in. If you're the one who left, that room shows a Rejoin button to jump straight back into your seat.
Heads-up: online play talks to a game server. If your app can no longer reach it, you'll be prompted to update to the latest version from the store.
